Although all the Marx Brothers were primarily known for their film career, there were some notable achievements and moments in their personal lives outside of Hollywood.
Chico Marx was an accomplished pianist, and often played piano in their films. However, he also played professionally in vaudeville shows and was particularly well-known in the gambling scene, where he was known for his ability to beat practically any game. He was also an avid horse-racing fan and owned several racehorses.
Harpo Marx was perhaps the most private of the brothers and rarely gave interviews or appeared in public. However, he was an accomplished harpist and often performed impromptu concerts for friends and family. He was also a skilled artist, and his paintings and drawings were often exhibited in galleries.
Groucho Marx was perhaps the most successful of the brothers after the movies. He had a successful career in radio, hosting several popular quiz shows including "You Bet Your Life." He also wrote several successful books, including his autobiography "Groucho and Me." Additionally, he was a prolific letter writer and often corresponded with fans and celebrities alike.
Zeppo Marx was the youngest and perhaps least known of the Marx Brothers (he appeared in only five of their movies). After he left the movies, he became a successful businessman and inventor, holding several patents for devices such as a wristwatch that could alert doctors to a patient's pulse rate. He also helped found the talent agency that represented his brothers.
